Linas Linkevičius meets with Egypt’s Foreign Minister, who is visiting Lithuania for the first time

On 22 August, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt Sameh Shoukry, who visited Lithuania for the first time.

“The very first visit of the Egyptian Foreign Minister is a historic moment for us, as we mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Egypt. This is important for further strengthening of bilateral relations between Lithuania and Egypt,” said Linkevičius. The Egyptian Foreign Minister Shoukry welcomed the beneficial economic and tourism cooperation between the two countries.

During the visit, the officials discussed the possibility of intensified bilateral cooperation, exchanged opinions on the general political and security situation in the Middle East, as well as the strengthening of the legal framework.

During the visit to Lithuania, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt Shoukry also met with the Prime Minister of Lithuania Saulius Skvernelis.

Lithuania and Egypt established diplomatic relations in 1992. The only Embassy of Lithuania in the Middle East has been operating since 2001 in Cairo. In 2016, the Ambassador Arvydas Daunoravičius was appointed the Ambassador of Lithuania to the Arab Republic of Egypt.
