Lithuania's Foreign Minister Landsbergis to pay an official visit to South Korea
On 11-13 January, Lithuania's Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis will pay a working visit to the Republic of Korea. Landsbergis will meet with Foreign Minister Park Jin, the Minister for Trade Dukgeun Ahn, the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee Chair at the National Assembly of South Korea Kim Tae-ho, and representatives of South Korean think tanks. Landsbergis will also hold meetings with CEOs of Samsung Display, SK Group, and nSage.
The official meetings will focus on bilateral relations between Lithuania and South Korea, with particular emphasis on promoting bilateral political dialogue, attracting Korean investment, and strengthening trade and economic cooperation in the fields of high-tech and science.
In Seul, the Foreign Minister will also discuss support for Ukraine, the consequences of Russia's war on regional and global security, security challenges posed by North Korea, bilateral cooperation at the United Nations, developments in the Indo-Pacific region, and the next NATO summit in Vilnius.
The Republic of Korea is a strategically important country for Lithuania in the Indo-Pacific region. As Lithuania diversified supply chains in developed and stable markets in Asia and Oceania, trade between Lithuania and Korea grew by 39 % in 2021. In January-October 2022, trade increased by 26 % compared to the same period in the previous year.
In 2021, Lithuania and Korea marked the 30th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. Lithuania opened its embassy in Seoul in the same year.
