On 22 January 1992 Egypt recognized Lithuania de jure.
On 22 January 1992, Egypt recognized the re-established independent State of Lithuania de jure. Diplomatic relations were re-established on the same day.
From 2006 to 2010, Dainius Ginutis Voveris served as the first Ambassador of Lithuania to Egypt after the re-establishment of independence.
From 1993 to 1994, Hamdy Mohamed Ibrahim Nada served as the first Ambassador of Egypt to Lithuania (resided in Sweden).
