CONFERENCE ON LITHUANIAN SEMIOLOGIST ALGIRDAS J. GREIMAS WILL BE HELD AT BIBLIOTHECA ALEXANDRINA

During the month of the Francophone, the Lithuanian Embassy in Cairo, in cooperation with the Bibliotheca Alexandrina -Francophone Library -  will held a conference  “Algirdas J. Greimas  in Alexandria (1949- 1958)”. The conference is dedicated to commemorate Lithuanian semiologists Algirdas J. Greimas, who was living and working in Alexandria from 1949 until 1958 where he taught history of French language at the Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University.

 

Algirdas J. Greimas (1917- 1992) is Lithuanian francophone semiologist and linguist who founded structural semiotics. His most significant books include Structural Semantics (1966) and On Meaning (1970).

The conference  “Algirdas J. Greimas in Alexandria (1949- 1958)” will be held on Wednesday, 20 March 2013, 5:00 pm at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Delegates Hall. Working language of the conference is French.
