The Embassy of Lithuania in Cairo lights up in orange while joining the “Orange the World“ campaign
On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in the Arab Republic of Egypt will be lit up in orange for 16 days. Lithuanian diplomats in Cairo have joined the international campaign "Orange the World" which will run from 25th of November until 10th of December – International Human Rights Day.
During this time, the orange reflection on the river Nile coming from the Embassy’s office will call to act together to end the violence against women and girls by promising to never commit, condone or remain silent about it.
Violence against women and girls still remains a painful challenge for the whole world - one in two women is sexually harassed, and one in three is subjected to physical or sexual abuse. Lithuania supports and encourages Egypt's efforts to take more active measures to empower Egyptian women and girls to ensure their rights and to combat all forms of violence. In October, the Embassy of Lithuania in Cairo celebrated the International Girl’s Day during which a young Egyptian girl Rawda spent half a day at the Embassy learning about daily routine of a diplomat and developing relations between Lithuania and Egypt.
